Northeast International Documentary & Film Fest

Northeast International Documentary and Film Fest aims at bridging the global film industry with that in Northeast India and create a holistic homegrown creative ecosystem. It is the first festival of its kind in upper Assam, hosted in Dibrugarh, the tea capital of India.

The objective is to uplift local talent, showcase global films and encourage cultural exchange through film tourism.

Film Categories & Durations

● Short Film – Not exceeding 40 mins
● Feature – Minimum 60 mins
● Documentary Short – Maximum 30 mins
● Documentary Feature – Minimum 31 mins
● Northeast Special Cultural Category – Maximum 25 mins
(Special category for fiction & non-fiction short showcasing tribal culture and heritage of Northeast
India)

Deadlines

  • Entry Open Date: July 21, 2023
  • Submission Deadlines –
          Regular Deadline: October 2, 2023
          Extended Deadline:  December 19, 2023
  • Notification Date: December 28, 2023

Festival Rules & Terms

● Films in any language can be submitted (subtitles compulsory for non-English entries)
● Multiple entries from a single participant can be submitted
● We accept YouTube, Google Drive, Vimeo & Dropbox links
● Jury decision will be final
● Shortlisted entries will be selected for official competition, selection is subject to Jury decision
● All information regarding the festival including selection and awards will be provided on the official
website and Facebook page
● Films selected for final round will be screened
● Film screening and award ceremony will be held on the same day
● Entry fees are payable through  Google Pay, Paypal, PhonePe, RTGS, NEFT, Wise and are non-refundable
● Festival reserves the right to determine eligibility of any work submitted
● Decision of the Festival committee will be final and binding
● Festival reserves the right to use posters and images of submitted films for promotional activities of the
festival

  • NOTE: Festival will interact with the submitter and/or the producer of the film only. Festival reserves the right of non-disclosure regarding entry and selection status of submitted films, violation of which may result in disqualification from the festival.

Filmmaking Symposium

A 3-day comprehensive filmmaking symposium is scheduled to be held for the first time in the Northeast. It will feature specialized workshops on pre-production to post-production from January 18 to 20, 2024, at Nabarupa Sangha, Dibrugarh.

Photography Competition

  • 13 to 18
  • 19 and above
  • Heritage Monuments (historical landmarks, ancient architecture, or any cultural sites)
  • Cultural Diversity (highlight cultural richness, ethnic communities, festivals, music and dance, cuisines etc.)
  • Faces of Culture (Portraits of people of different cultures conveying emotions and the spirit of a community)
  • DSLR & mobile photography allowed
  • Upload photo in JPEG format only without any watermark
  • File size should not exceed 15 MB
  • Photo manipulation & photo bashing not allowed
  • Participants must produce the RAW photograph when asked to
  • Only color grading allowed

Storywriting Competition

As part of our ongoing initiatives building up to the festival event, we are organizing an inter college storywriting competition under the aegis of NIDFF and would like to showcase talented students from various esteemed institutions to be a part of it.

The winning story will be published in our souvenir SPOTLIGHT.

NIDFF Season 2 Story Writing Competition format & regulations are as follows –

  • The college will select three (3) best stories after a preliminary internal competition/selection process at its discretion
  • Last date of submission is 20 November, 2023
  • The college will submit the selected three (3) stories to NIDFF by email at contact@rcmp.co.in
  • NIDFF festival jury will evaluate all entries submitted by different colleges and select a winner
  • There are no topic restrictions for the competition
  • Only stories in Assamese and English languages are accepted
  • Winner will be announced and awarded at NIDFF main festival event on 21st January 2024
  • Only one winner will be awarded for the competition on a winner-takes-all basis
  • The decision and judgement of the festival jury will be final
